What is Freeze authority?

Freeze authority is the on-chain power to halt a token's transfers for a given account or globally. Issuers keep it on regulated tokenized assets because compliance regimes can compel freezing: a court order, a sanctions listing, an enforcement action against a holder.

It is the clearest reminder that 'on a blockchain' does not mean 'beyond the law' - a token with a live freeze authority carries issuer-side legal exposure by design, and an asset page should say so in those words.

Freeze authority on U.CASH

Freeze authority is a stated fact per asset, shown in the diligence block beside mint authority. Regulated tokenized-equity forms carry it; pure crypto assets generally do not have one to carry.

Freeze authority: FAQ

Does U.CASH control freeze authorities?
No - the authority belongs to the token's issuing program. U.CASH states whether one exists per asset and treats it as diligence data, not as a platform feature.
